The Australian Lithuanian Youth Association (ALJS) is an independent, non-political, volunteer-based youth organisation that unites Lithuanians aged 16–35 across Australia. ALJS is a member organisation of the World Lithuanian Youth Association (PLJS) and actively participates in the global Lithuanian youth network.
ALJS was formally established in 1973, with its roots tracing back to 1966 when young Lithuanians in Australia began preparing for the First World Lithuanian Youth Congress in the United States and Canada. In 1976, the organisation’s statute was adopted in Melbourne and the first congress of the Australian Lithuanian Youth Association was held. Over the decades, ALJS expanded to include branches in Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, and Canberra.

The organisation has played an important role in both national and global initiatives. It helped organise Baltic Youth Seminars, Study Days, and hosted two World Lithuanian Youth Congresses in Australia (1987–88 and 2000–01). In recent years, ALJS members have participated in international projects, including the global “5 for Lithuania” run, and continue to represent Australian Lithuanian youth at various international forums and cultural events.
Today, the mission of ALJS is to preserve and strengthen Lithuanian identity, foster an active and creative youth community in Australia, encourage civic engagement, and build connections with peers in Lithuania and around the world.
